Fluid dynamics in cold water
Marek Stastna (University of Waterloo) and Jason Olsthoorn (Queen's University)
It is well known that the Arctic is warming rapidly. Even at more moderate latitudes, the winter season is undergoing profound and systematic changes. This special session will present results of research on fluid dynamics in cold water, including phenomena observed in the neighbourhood of the temperature of maximum density and the freezing temperature. We welcome work on the fundamental fluid dynamics in this regime including fluid-ice interaction, flow in porous media, large scale flow in cold regions, and double diffusion. Theoretical, numerical, experimental, observational , and data-centric approaches are welcome.
