Recent progress in numerical methods and scientific computing

Owing to the significant novel requirements for scientific computing and applications, many new and efficient numerical methods have been developed and analyzed in the past ten years. This special session will focus on numerical methods for differential equations including both ordinary and partial differential equations and for eigenvalues of matrices and numerical linear algebra, by emphasizing new advances. The topics of interest are (but not limited to): high-order methods, conservative methods, FEMs, FDMs, compact FDMs, stochastic numerical methods, iterative methods, optimization methods, and parallel computing methods. The session will also emphasize both design and analysis of algorithms in applications of scientific computing, especially in scientific, data science, environment, energy, finance, image processing, MRI, engineering and industrial applications. This session will serve as a forum to bring together research scientists, application pioneers, and software developers to discuss problems and solutions and to identify new challenges in these areas.
